Yellowstone National Park is a place like no other—full of dramatic landscapes, geothermal features, and abundant wildlife. On our recent trip, we spent two unforgettable days exploring its highlights. Here’s how our adventure unfolded and what you can expect if you’re planning your own trip.

Day 1: Geysers and Iconic Landmarks
We entered the park through the South Entrance, excited for what lay ahead. Our first stop was Lewis Lake Campground, where we set up camp before heading out to see the sights.
Lower Geyser Basin Nature Walk
Our first adventure of the day took us to the Lower Geyser Basin. Walking along the boardwalk, we were surrounded by steaming vents, bubbling hot springs, and otherworldly geothermal activity. The colors and sounds here make it feel like stepping into a different planet.
Grand Prismatic Spring
From there, we continued to the Grand Prismatic Spring Boardwalk. This is Yellowstone’s largest hot spring and one of its most photographed features. The vibrant colors—bright blues, oranges, and yellows—were absolutely mesmerizing.

Old Faithful
No trip to Yellowstone is complete without witnessing Old Faithful. We arrived just in time to watch it erupt, sending a powerful jet of water and steam into the sky. It’s a classic Yellowstone experience and never disappoints.
After an exciting day, we returned to Lewis Lake Campground for dinner around the campfire and an early bedtime. We knew we’d need all our energy for what was coming next.
Day 2: Wildlife and Waterfalls
We woke up before sunrise to head into Lamar Valley, one of the best wildlife-viewing areas in the park. It was worth the early start!
Lamar Valley Wildlife
As the first light hit the valley, animals began to emerge. We spotted elk, herds of bison, and even bears from a safe distance. Watching wildlife in their natural habitat was one of the highlights of our trip.
Mammoth Hot Springs
Next, we drove to Mammoth Hot Springs, where the terraces of white and orange limestone create an otherworldly landscape. The steaming formations constantly change over time, making each visit unique.
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Continuing south, we arrived at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, one of the park’s most breathtaking sights. We visited multiple viewpoints, each offering a different perspective of the dramatic canyon walls and the powerful Lower Falls. This stop quickly became one of our favorites, though it was also one of the busiest.
Lunch at Yellowstone Lake
Before wrapping up our trip, we enjoyed a simple picnic of sandwiches on the shores of Yellowstone Lake. The peaceful water and mountain backdrop made for the perfect final moment in the park.
Reflections on the Trip
In just two days, Yellowstone gave us steaming geysers, roaring waterfalls, quiet lakes, and incredible wildlife encounters. While the park is vast and there’s so much more to explore, this itinerary allowed us to see many of its most iconic sights.
